Edgbaston

Edgbaston is south-west of Birmingham city centre. It should not be treated as a city-centre venue — there is a meaningful gap between the ground and the main rail stations, and how you bridge that gap on matchday depends significantly on where you are staying.

Staying centrally simplifies rail arrival, gives a wider choice of hotels and restaurants, and keeps airport connections straightforward. On matchdays, you will need a planned route to the ground. Staying closer to Edgbaston reduces that matchday movement and can be the right call for visitors whose Birmingham stay is built primarily around the Test. The trade-off is a narrower accommodation market and more reliance on planned transport for everything else — rail onward travel, airport access, and the wider city.

Neither choice is unconditionally better. The right decision depends on how many days of the Test you are attending, whether you are arriving from another host city by rail, and what comes before and after in your itinerary.

Birmingham New Street is the principal rail arrival point for many visitors travelling from other parts of the UK. Which station is most convenient depends on your origin, your accommodation and your onward plans — not just the ground on its own.

Onward travel from New Street or any other Birmingham station to Edgbaston is not a simple walk. Whether you use local transport, a taxi, or another arrangement, that leg of the journey needs to be considered alongside your accommodation choice. Visitors arriving with luggage may prefer to check into their hotel before heading towards the ground, particularly on the first day of the match.

Check official ticket information before travel. Tickets should be obtained through official ECB and Edgbaston channels — do not rely on unverified third-party listings.

The correct entrance for your ticket, gate-opening times and any temporary access restrictions have not yet been published for the 2027 Test. Confirm these via official Edgbaston and ECB channels as the fixture approaches, not just on the day of travel.

Allow margin for security checks and crowd movement. Normal local transport arrangements may not hold on matchdays — do not assume that the transport options available on a regular day will be identical to those operating during the Test. Confirm any planned route closer to the date.

Keep both digital and offline copies of your ticket and travel details so that disruption to any single service does not leave you without alternatives.

The Third Test falls in the middle of the series. A Birmingham stay can be extended before or after the match to take in more of the city. The Fourth Test follows at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton — rail connects Birmingham to Southampton, making onward travel between these two venues a manageable intercity leg. From Southampton, the series closes with the Fifth Test at Kia Oval in London.

Visitors building a multi-Test itinerary will pass through Nottingham, London, Birmingham, Southampton and London again.
