Visa & Entry
Most international visitors need either a Standard Visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Which applies depends on your nationality and passport.
The Two Main Routes
Standard Visitor Visa
Required for some nationalities before travelling to the UK for tourism. Applied for online in advance; most applicants also enrol biometric details.
Examples of nationalities that may use this route:
- India
- Pakistan
- Bangladesh
- Sri Lanka
- South Africa
These are examples only and not a complete list. Your requirement depends on your nationality and the passport you hold.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
Nationals who do not need a visa for short visits usually need an ETA. Applied for online before travel; allows stays of up to six months. An ETA does not guarantee entry.
Examples of nationalities that may use this route:
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Sweden
- Canada
- United States
These are examples only and not a complete list. Your requirement depends on your nationality and the passport you hold.
